Right at Home welcomes CQC crackdown on poor home care

AT Right at Home we know the care we offer is second to none - however we also know that elsewhere, others have fallen distressingly far of the mark.

That is why we welcome the news that the CQC (Care Quality Commission) is to start inspecting home care agencies at work behind closed doors in clients' homes.

We know the huge amount of trust and confidence that is placed in our carers by the clients' family and friends of those who rely upon us -  and sadly we know that elsewhere in the industry that trust and confidence has, on occasion, been painfully abused.

A carer will often have their client's entire well-being is in their hands - this is too important an area to simply ignore. And inspections of the office and administration side of the business cannot truly reveal how well a company is caring for its clients.

These new CQC inspections should, if carried out effectively, give families and lived ones peace of mind from knowing that both the carers and the company they work for are all putting their loved one's needs and wishes before their own, and delivering personalised, compassionate care across the board - be it in assisting feeding, socialising or personal care.

The abuse of power over vulnerable service-users is something we should all be determined to stamp out. It puts a stain on the public image of the many hundreds of thousands of dedicated, compassionate home carers who devote their career to improving the lives of their clients.
