Community Connections with Right at Home

Right at Home Bristol connects with the local community

At Right at Home we want to provide more than just Home Care for our clients, we believe that a lot of older people feel isolated and lonely which can affect their general wellbeing.

To help try and minimise this we decided to engage with local schools and early years settings to see if we could come up with a way to introduce some intergenerational connections between our older people and children within the local community.

The Park Primary School thought this was a great idea, so after liasing with our Community Coordinator (Bernadette Tsangari) it was decided that we would involve the entire school, from reception up to year 6, with each class visiting our Lunch Club throughout the school year, to engage in activities with our guests.

This collaberation has proved to be very succesful thus far, with the sessions being of great benefit to both the younger and older generations.

"The many benefits of good contact between old and young include better attitudes towards older people, less stereotyping and less anxiety about ageing." (Jane Vass, Director of Policy and Research, Age Uk)

Right at Home Bristol are looking forward to continuing to work in partnership with The Park Primary School to build positive, community relationships.
