Cross Country Care…Right at Home Bristol are Going the Extra Mile.

Our client (TC) was invited to a two-day training trip in London, our Field Care Supervisor Kerrie was only too happy to discuss this with him and find a way to make it happen, here’s what Kerrie Wootten had to say:

“TC requested assistance from Right at Home Bristol with a two-day business trip to London. We discussed this at great length, about the pros and cons of attending this trip and different ways we could meet his needs around traveling with his wheelchair and luggage. We looked at different modes of transport we could use and decided that the train and underground would be the best option for TC.

We approached management with the idea and put a plan in place, I wrote a traveling file and care plan with risk assessments for the trip, and we ensured TC had an adapted, accessible hotel room for his stay.

On the morning of travel, I visited TC and ensured everything was packed including his shower aids and medication and ensured TC knew the plans for our trip. We then travelled to Parkway station and caught a train to Paddington Station; we booked travel assistance with the train services to assist TC on and off the train. Once in London we ran into a few issues with regards to the underground as there are only certain platforms that have no steps and are wheelchair friendly, this was only a minor setback, and we quickly overcame this.

Once we got to the hotel, I assisted TC to set up the room for his stay and then went to the hotel restaurant for a meal. TC spoke about how grateful he is to myself and Right at Home Bristol for assisting him with this opportunity and even though things went awry with traveling that day how calm he felt with the way I had handled the situation.

The following two days I assisted TC with his usual morning routine and getting his breakfast at the restaurant before heading off to his office. Once he was there, I left him to complete his day and later returned to assist him with traveling back.

On our return to Bristol, we had to divert to Temple Meads Station instead of Parkway, we were assisted with a taxi to Parkway and from there myself and TC travelled back to his home.”

At Right at Home Bristol, we encourage our clients to be as independent as possible and support them when needed, this trip was important to TC and Kerrie was determined to find a way to achieve this. As you can see a lot of time and effort went into planning this and ensuring TC was safe and supported throughout his business trip. TC was very thankful, and we are very proud of Kerrie for her help, determination and for going above and beyond for TC, here’s what he had to say:

“I am very grateful to Kerrie and Right at Home Bristol for assisting me with this trip and giving me the opportunity to attend, I wasn’t sure this was feasible for me to achieve but with their help and support it was a success. I’m looking forward to attending more of these in the future now that I know this is possible”.
