It wouldn't be Christmas without a Christmas Dinner!

Our client (JA) lives in a supported living facility, he has several visits a day provided by Right at Home Bristol.

When JA was invited out to a local restaurant for his housing complexes Christmas Dinner, he didn't think he would be able to attend due to the fact that he uses a manual wheelchair.

After several discussions with JA and his family members we were determined to make this happen, JA was very keen to attend as he has limited opportunities to leave the house and doesn't feel confident in doing so, so he hadn't for a while.

After liaising with JA, the family and our Registered Manager we found a solution, JA would be able to attend the Christmas Dinner with assistance from one of his regular Caregivers and it was decided that he would go with Bernadette (Community Coordinator) who supports JA several times a week during visits.

On the day of the outing Bernadette visited JA and helped him get ready and into his christmas jumper' and off they went for the Christmas meal, it was a short walk from JA's house to the restaurant.

JA enjoyed a delicious three course meal consisting of a brie and Onion tart, a turkey dinner with all the trimmings followed by a cheese board and a christmas tipple or two. JA enjoyed catching up with other residents from his complex and meeting some of their family members. he left the restaurant very satisfied and needing a nap.

Here's what JA had to say about the day:

"It was lovely to be able to get out of the flat and attend my christmas meal. I am very thankful for the help from Bernadette and the team at Right at Home for getting me there. The food was great and the company was too. I appreciate the support from the people involved in my care and really enjoyed my day!"

Bernadette said:

"I was very grateful to have been invited to assist JA with his outing. JA rarely leaves the house so i jumped at the chance to be able to take him out. I could tell JA was determined to go and excited as he had asked his family to order him a christmas jumper.

It was great to see JA socialising and enjoying his time with the other residents, it really seemed to cheer him up and lift his mood. The meal was great and everyone made an effort to come over and speak to JA and myself, he had a lovely time and said the wine and food wasn't bad either!

It's always a pleasure to support JA but helping improve his quality of life and boost his mental wellbeing tops everything!'

JA left the restaurant in a great mood and feeling very festive!Once he had returned home he had assistance with his medication then had a well deserved nap.
