Carer in PPE with clients

How to become a Care Professional when you have no experience

To become a Carer, it’s important to have a passion for supporting people above all else.

Certain specialist care roles require very specific qualifications and experience. Whilst other CareGiver roles offer all the necessary training and experience in-house. So it is possible to become a professional care worker with no previous experience in the sector.

At Right at Home, we believe that personal qualities are the most important thing when determining whether you will be a good fit for a job in homecare. Our team of expert trainers and facilitators provide all necessary training before you interact with Clients.

We certainly don’t expect you to know everything before you start. So, if you’re looking for Carer jobs with no experience required, we may have a role for you.

What skills do I need to be a carer?

You don’t need specific formal experience or technical skills to take on a Junior CareGiver role. However, we do seek out candidates with specific qualities and excellent communication skills. We pride ourselves on hiring Carers who demonstrate:

  • Passion & Dedication
  • Reliability & Trustworthiness
  • Adaptability & Organisation
  • Attentiveness & Positivity
  • Patience & Respect

Take a look at our page on the qualities that make a good Carer to find out more about the transferable skills you may be able to bring to this role.

Can I work in social care without a degree?

Work within the health and social care sectors span a wide spectrum of Clients and circumstances, but often attract the same type of candidates: people who want to make a difference.

If you are looking to qualify as a social worker, you will need a social work degree. Whereas, if you seek to make a difference to people’s lives on a daily basis, homecare is an incredibly fulfilling industry to work in.

At-home CareGivers do not require the same level of formal qualifications as some other roles in the care sector. While any training or education in health and social care is certainly beneficial, we believe in training every Carer once they’ve joined our team. The experience we offer is excellent for anyone looking to progress into nursing and other health and social care sectors. We don’t expect everyone to come to us with a degree, just a desire to make a difference.
