What is Alzheimer’s disease?
Alzheimer’s disease is a physical disease that affects the brain. The nerve cells are disrupted by ‘plaques’ and ‘tangles’ that develop inside the brain. Alzheimer’s can cause difficulties not only for the person who has dementia but also those close to them. If you recognise that a family member has developed symptoms or is finding tasks are becoming a challenge, encourage them to consult their GP.
