'ActiviTEA' event helps unites the community

On Friday, 7th July, we were delighted to bring the community together for a splendid day of food, friendship and fun for our clients and their families. The very first 'ActiviTEA' event was born from a heartfelt aspiration to increase the engagement and social connections of some of our elderly clients.

Hosted at Eastleigh’s Pavilion on the Park, with the help and support of the Eastleigh Youth and Community Trust, the 40-strong gathering took part in dementia-friendly activities, such as word searches and bingo. It was a great opportunity for the guests to make new friends and share stories whilst tucking into a delicious selection of cakes, sandwiches and drinks – all served by our wonderful team of CareGivers.

“It was evident after the coronation party we had back in May that there was a real desire for more events like this,” said Deputy Manager, Yasmin Howard. “We had so many clients who told us how much they enjoyed the party, we were determined to do something for the community again.

“It can be difficult for some of our clients to have these social opportunities, but our carers have all gone the extra mile to get people here. The benefits stretch beyond today. New friendships have been formed, phone numbers and email addresses have been swapped. It’s been a lovely day, and I feel really proud of all my team and the amazing efforts they’ve put in.”

Local residents, Flora and Roger, explained how much the ActiviTEA event meant to them: “I have to keep my mind going and try to keep fit as I don’t see a lot of people – this helps me with all of it! I enjoy meeting people who live near me that I never knew.” said Flora. “Another great event thrown by Right at Home,” said Roger. “We all had great fun playing bingo, it was so lovely to get out of the house because I don’t often get to.”

As a homecare provider, we are hugely passionate about community spirit and tackling loneliness. We plan on running regular ActiviTEA events in the future, and with a focus on dementia-friendly activities and an ‘everyone welcome’ outlook, the events will provide a relaxed and friendly opportunity for locals – whether clients of Right at Home Mid Hampshire or not – to come together and connect.
