CareGiver Maria Rose shortlisted for ‘Carer of the Year’ award!

Published: 22/06/2023

Congratulations to one of our wonderful CareGivers, Maria Rose, who was named as a finalist in the Hampshire Care Awards. Maria was shortlisted for ‘Carer of the Year’ at the prestigious event. Those of you who have interacted with Maria before will know this doesn’t come as a surprise. Renowned for singing wherever she goes and for her unwavering positivity, we can’t think of anyone more deserving of this nomination.

The Hampshire Care Awards is an annual event organised by the Hampshire Care Association. The awards recognise the many outstanding individuals and providers of adult social care in Hampshire and brings them together for a special night of celebration.

“Finding out I was a finalist was like winning the lottery!” said Maria. “I couldn’t believe it. It’s so nice to get a thank you, never mind being shortlisted for an award. It felt as though I’d already won.”

Maria has been a part of our team here at Right at Home Mid Hampshire for just over two years now. Prior to becoming a CareGiver, she owned her own parcel delivery business alongside her husband. When the couple’s business sadly closed during the pandemic, Maria decided to return to her roots in care – a place where she truly feels happy. Now, two years on, Maria says she can’t imagine ever doing anything else.

“I absolutely love what I do. I support my clients to ensure they get the best out of life and feel the best they can. The sense of satisfaction is incredible. I always go into someone’s house with an open heart. Whether I’m there for personal care, cooking meals or being a companion, I walk away feeling proud, knowing I’ve done something good for someone and made a difference.”

Yasmin Howard, Deputy Manager: “Maria is a fabulous carer and a very special team member and truly deserves this recognition; she’s very much loved by both clients and colleagues alike. She always goes out of her way to make sure every single person that she visits has the best quality of care possible and often goes above and beyond for those she supports. If we could have a thousand Marias, it would be amazing!”

This year’s awards were hosted by TV personality and general practitioner Dr Hilary Jones MBE, who is best known for his appearances on Good Morning Britain and Lorraine.

The awards were a great success, and it was fantastic for the team to get dressed up for an inspiring evening. Congratulations to all the winners.
