More than just CareGivers: Celebrating Wayne’s seven-year bond with Right at Home

For most, home is where the heart is. It’s a sanctuary of memories, a place of warmth, and a bastion of love and care. We have made it our mission to ensure that those under our care experience this kind-heartedness every single day. Wayne's story stands as a testament to the level of dedication and commitment that every one of our CareGivers at Right at Home Mid Hampshire offer to clients.

Wayne, a 60-year-old former football coach from North Baddesley, recently marked a significant milestone – seven years of exceptional care with Right at Home. While Wayne's journey has been challenging due to a severe debilitating condition that has restricted him to his bed for six years, it's also been filled with moments of joy, grace, and an enduring spirit that defies limitations.

Before his health took a turn, Wayne showcased his skills as a football coach and manager for the Totton & Eling Football Club Under-18 team. His passionate mentorship paved the way for the team's victory in the Hampshire league. The flame of his passion for football still burns bright, evident from his memorable trip with his CareGivers to St. Mary’s Stadium last year to cheer for his cherished Southampton FC.

This journey wouldn’t have been possible without his dedicated team of CareGivers – Grace, Sam, Stacey, and Edith. Their unwavering commitment to Wayne's wellbeing stands as a beacon of hope and friendship. Their collective efforts ensure Wayne enjoys a life replete with dignity, compassion, and the warmth of familial bonds. To celebrate Wayne's seven-year journey with them, a surprise party was thrown, a gesture that speaks volumes about their bond.

Wayne commented: “I can’t believe it’s been seven years already. I now enjoy every day, thanks to Right at Home Mid Hampshire - they are the best care company I have been with. My CareGivers go above and beyond for me during my daily visits, including my cleaning, cooking, medication and all my personal care. I’m hugely grateful for everything they do as I’m unable to leave my bed or house due to my condition. I have been able to leave my house a few times in my wheelchair and go for walks locally, but the best time was when I won an all-expenses paid trip to Southampton FC to watch my team with my favourite four CareGivers. It was an amazing day out - shame about the score, though!

“I love my CareGivers. They are more than my carers – they’re my family and the closest people to me. The Right at Home office team are also always willing to help me and are just a phone call away if I ever need to get hold of them. I feel so honoured that a party was organised for me. A big thank you to my carers for making me feel so special every day.”

Right at Home CareGiver, Sam, has been looking after Wayne for over two years and gets so much satisfaction knowing she is helping him to have a more comfortable life in his home. She added: “I provide Wayne with companionship and care, which makes a really positive difference in his life, particularly at night when he needs friendship and assurance. We have built a strong and friendly relationship over time, and both enjoy watching football and films together, as well as taking part in quiz shows and listening to music during my night shifts. I’ve been a Right at Home CareGiver for four years now, and we always have a party to mark such occasions as anniversaries or birthdays. Wayne is an inspiration to us all and a much-loved member of our community – he is wonderful company to spend time with.”
