CareGivers at home care provider, Right at Home GF are spreading Christmas joy to their clients while raising money for charity with a month of seasonal fundraising activities.
“With our packed programme which we are calling the Right at Home Days of Christmas, we are bringing all the fun and joy of Christmas to our clients and our staff throughout December. We are raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society with raffles, competitions like ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar’ and a dedicated fundraising day. When staff donate an hour of their time on our fundraising day, we will match it with the same amount,” says Alastair Shanks, Managing Director at Right at Home GF. “Our CareGivers have also been dressing up as elves and supporting our clients with Christmas themed crafting activities.”
As an added fundraising incentive, if staff manage to raise over £1,500 Right at Home GF boss Alastair has pledged to dress up as an elf on 22 December and run between the Bordon and Farnham office.
“Our Christmas fundraising in previous years has been great fun and resulted in welcome donations to good causes. Despite COVID, we were keen to make sure we put as much effort as ever into raising money for our chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society. Our staff and clients love taking part and we are proud to support them,” says Mr Shanks.
The Christmas joy began on 1 December with the announcement of the winner of the children’s Christmas card art competition. Right at Home GF client Mary chose the winning picture and proceeds of the sale of packs of cards will be included in the fundraising total. On 12 December, there was a fundraising scavenger hunt for elves around Frensham Little Pond, followed by a name the elf competition on 14 December. Later in December, staff can enter a gingerbread house competition with their clients or family members.
The Right at Home Days of Christmas programme reaches its finale on Christmas Day. As an alternative to the Christmas meals usually provided in day centres – which this year is not possible – the Friends of Right at Home are organising for volunteers to provide a portion of Christmas lunch to an isolated elderly person. The meals will be delivered in a COVID-aware way to the recipients and can be eaten straight away or reheated for later. Right at Home GF is encouraging volunteers to take a photo of the meal they are donating and share it on Facebook to show how members of the local community are helping people in need.
