World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

Yesterday was World Mental Health Day and we at Right at Home spent the morning at Hugh Baird College in Bootle where they held an excellent event in conjunction with Access Sefton. There were several ‘Health and Well being’ specialist organisations on hand to to share information and give advice on how and where the people of Sefton can find a greater sense of balance in their lives.

The event was free to all and was very well attended, dare we say the quality of info’ on offer coupled with the free hand and shoulder massage was a great combination to draw in the crowds!

We were especially taken with the great work Access Sefton do, the quality of their collateral and the tool kit they offer to anybody living in North and South Sefton (over the age of 16) living with anxiety, depression or other similar difficulties. The service is completely free as it is fully funded by the NHS and Access Sefton have an ambition to grow the number of people they are supporting by identifying those who are beginning to feel the pressures of life. The team really want to focus on early intervention and helping stave off the effects of depression and mental health issues before they become more serious.

We are huge fans of this approach and will do all we can to help signpost this and other services available to those that need our support, for those people in our community who are smiling on the outside but suffering in silence on the inside. There is so much we can do and there are many groups like Access Sefton who exist to help the people across the borough of Sefton and beyond.

For our Care Givers, we thought as this year’s theme is ‘mental health in the workplace’, we would share the Access Sefton view on how to achieve balance at work, see below;

Work can be fulfilling and satisfying, but it can also make us feel stressed or low. We have chosen to highlight the Five Ways to Wellbeing in our activity for World Mental Health Day this year, and how they can help us to achieve balance at work.

The Five Ways are:

  1. Connect
  2. Be active
  3. Take notice
  4. Learn
  5. Give

We have created some graphics about how the Five Ways can be applied to our lives in the workplace–please visit the link below, download the cards and share them far and wide on social media!

It’s World Mental Health Day!
