Sunday 1st October is the International Day of Older Persons, as support by the United Nations.
The day was created in December 1990, by the UN Assembly. The day is to bring awareness to society that we are an ageing population, and how important it is that we embrace this in the best possible way. The UN is working closely with governing bodies across the world, to amended policies for healthcare, education and more to ensure we are able to best support our ageing population.
This video explains the changes we need to make as a society to support our Older People, and benefit from their wisdom and experiences. It is a great insight to how much work can be done to help celebrate our Older Persons across the world.
Following our visit to the Celebrating Age Festival in Bristol, we can see the amazing work being done everyday locally here in Bristol. We are now working closely with various organisations to assist in raising awareness of the different activities and community centres our Old Person’s in Bristol can now access.
We continue to support our societies Older Persons, and International Day of the Older Persons is a great opportunity to raise further awareness of the importance of this!
