Loneliness and social isolation

Loneliness and social isolation can affect every member of the community. However, older people are especially vulnerable due to illness, reduced mobility and loss of friends and family. Many studies have proven that loneliness and social isolation can seriously impact on an individual’s general health, quality of life and mental health.

According to Age UK, there are over 2 million people living alone over the age of 75. More than a million of these say they go over a month without speaking to anyone.

Joining a social club or attending activities organised by local community groups is a great way to get out of the house and meet other people who might be in the same situation. Take a look below to find out what is happening near you

Brendoncare Clubs

Brendoncare is a charity that promotes various clubs and organisation for older people to minimise social isolation.

Knit and natter group

WI groups
