Gas and Fire Safety

Fires can cause damage very quickly and can be very frightening. We’ve put together some tips to reduce the risk of fires in your home.

1.       Check your smoke alarms weekly

2.       Plan a fire escape route and ensure that exits, stairs and corridors are free from clutter

3.       Don’t dry clothes over or near a fire or electric heater

4.       Do not use multiple extension cables together

5.       Do not leave pans on the hob unattended

6.       Keep clothes, dishcloths and flammable objects away from gas cookers

7.       If you smoke, stub your cigarettes out carefully and never smoke in bed

8.       If you have an open fire, use a fireguard and get your chimney swept annually

9.       If you smell gas, open all doors and windows, turn off the gas supply and call the Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away. The Gas Emergency Service line is open 24/7

10.   Ensure all candles are blown out before going to bed
