It was almost exactly a year to the day when Duncan and his Right at Home team walked 34 miles from Haslemere to Havant raising an amazing £1,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society. A terrific achievement, I’m sure you agree! Well, they’re back at it again. This time, given the social distancing requirements during the coronavirus pandemic, Duncan has chosen a solo activity and possibly his toughest challenge yet….to run 100 miles in just 30 days with all monies raised going to the Alzheimer’s Society.

“Every year we like to take on a big challenge for charity. Ordinarily we would make it a team effort but with the coronavirus it meant it wasn’t possible so I decided to do something alone. The idea was provided by the Alzheimer’s Society website suggesting a 50 mile run, but being relatively fit, or so I thought, I decided to double it to 100 miles. Oh, what was I thinking! At the time of writing this article I have covered 77 miles in 21 days but it has been tough going and there’s more to go. Initially my tactic was less but frequent: running 3.5 miles every day. But I found it monotonous and the lack of recovery days too much, so I switched to longer but less often. In addition, I called on a couple of pals to help. Both Nick and Alastair have multiple marathons behind them so they made the perfect running partners and helped me especially with the mental stamina required to tackle the longer runs. The highlight has been completing a half marathon but even better has been the incredible support enabling me to raise a staggering £1,500 – so far! Thank you everyone for your contribution.”
