Anushka - Assistant Care Manager

I am Anushka, born and raised in Suriname, a country which people hardly know in this part of the world. It’s defined by a dense tropical rainforest near to the lungs of our Mother Earth, the Amazon rainforest. It’s also known for its Dutch colonial influence with a melting- pot culture where everyone lives in harmony. I must admit that this vibrant colorful fusion of our country played an important role in defining who I am. I like to learn about people their cultural backgrounds and I am also passionate about cooking, spending my free time trying something new. I have learned to share whatever I prepare; this is mostly because I have learned to give and not to count the cost because of my spiritual background. I love travelling and have seen a lot of the world. The UK wasn’t new to me as I came several times for both personal and business reasons.

I decided to move to the United Kingdom in 2018 and have had a professional career in Human Resources, Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain, Finance and Business Development, a quiet multidisciplinary role in a cost cutting and profit-making multinational company. My role as HR Director was very rewarding and I tended to care about thousand employees and their families. I was like a mother to them. This nurturing trait has helped me so far to adjust in the care industry. This industry is new to me and back home we have a very social engaging atmosphere; we take pride in caring for our families! This care sector was something new to me and I love new challenges. It became more challenging when I got Covid -19 and ended up in the hospital during times that fear, health anxiety and apprehension about having or contracting Covid-19 was evident with some abandoning their responsibility. I have shown commitment in these difficult times with compassion for the elderly vulnerable. I didn’t give up my determination to go to work when I got better even when my family were concerned about my health (they forbid me to work).  Caring for others was always embedded in my values and today I can proudly say that I have I fought against this pandemic with compassion for others and I stood upfront to care for the most vulnerable elderly.

I joined Right at the Home this January 2022. What I like about them is this company does what they say. They are truly compassionate about the delivery of highest quality of person-centered service. They recruit the best of the best and the companies’ values are rooted in their culture. I enjoyed the induction session and have always felt a feeling of belonging; being part of This Family.

I truly believe that being compassionate about care is an important ingredient in delivering a quality of care. I am now unwinding my career and I like to grow with this company.  This nurturing work environment will be of assistance where empathy for others is central. With this pandemic we have learned an important lesson in this world; we are seeing life from a different perspective. Life is not always about chasing money and having luxury but also about taking care of yourself and your surroundings. Right at Home is the best environment to enhance my growth potential.
