Their app allows family members can be updated daily and the review meetings ensure we continue to meet my mother's needs. All the staff have a lovely personable manner and take great pride in their work. I would definitely recommend this company."

Anerley Local History and Places to Visit

Anerley is in south east London within the London Borough of Bromley. It is located 7 miles south south-east of Charing Cross, to the south of Crystal Palace.

The area is much changed since 1841 when "Anerley Gardens" opened providing entertainment to the growing 19th century leisure industry. With the arrival of rail travel, Anerley become a desirable social venue, with regular dances, a boating lake, a Swiss cottage and a maze. The old Croydon Canal was also a popular destination for anglers. The pleasure gardens closed in 1868, due to competition from the nearby Crystal Palace.

(The fashion for recreating Swiss Cottages (alpine style chalets) was a long standing craze in 18th and 19th century England. Their popularity derived from tourists, including the poet William Wordsworth, returning from walking tours in Switzerland with a love of Alpine scenery and mountain chalets).

During World War 2 Anerley suffered extensive bomb damage, with 23 V1 rockets landing in the SE20 district.  On 18 June 1944 a V1 Rocket was shot down by AA gun fire. The V1 fell upon Anerley Park near the junction of Anerley Road. Two people were killed and the damage to property were three houses destroyed with a further 20 houses severely damaged.  On 11 July 1944 a V1 Rocket landed on Anerley Road at the Junction with Crystal Palace railway station. 11 people were killed and over 100 houses or shops destroyed or damaged along Station Road and Anerley Road.
