A healthy outside starts on the inside

Eating healthy can be difficult when you are putting your family and others first. Why not try to combine these two areas? The NHS’s Change 4 Life website has lots of activities, recipes and ideas to help make healthy eating with your family fun.

There are a whole host of benefits for eating healthy:

• Better mood
• Improved memory
• More energy
• Weight loss
• Diabetes management
• Helps reduce the risk of heart disease

Eating healthy when you’re on the go

We know it isn’t always easy to eat healthy when you’re on the go but there are healthy options out there! Here are just a few suggestions for snacks you can enjoy:

• Fruit
• Raisins
• Kale crisps
• Pumpkin seeds
• Almonds and other nuts
• Veggies (celery or carrots sticks)
• Homemade soup in a flask
• Hard-boiled eggs

Save yourself time and money!

It’s often thought that eating healthy and cooking meals from scratch is expensive, but this isn’t true! Batch cooking meals from scratch and freezing portions are great ways to save yourself time and money in the kitchen. Why not have a competition with your family on who can make the tastiest home cooked meal for all the family, within a set budget?

If you’re still not convinced, take a look at this great article from the BBC on cheap, homemade family dinners which work out at less than £1.00 per portion!

In tomorrow’s blog, we’ll be discussing the importance of sleep.
