Working in Healthcare

There are so many great things about working in Healthcare; although it is a hugely rewarding profession, it can definitely be challenging at times. Providing care for those most vulnerable in society is a pivotal role within the Health and Social Care Industry; and helps them to maximise their quality of life for as long as possible, which is why to work in Healthcare, requires a special sort of person. Our amazing Chrissy, who's been with us for over two years now, celebrated her '30 Years of working in Healthcare' last Friday (30/09/22). Since joining our team in 2020, Chrissy has had a number of different roles with us; she started her Right at Home journey as a CareGiver, then she took the role as 'End of Life Specialist', Team Leader and now she is in our Fareham office part-time, auditing the care notes. 

This is what Chrissy said about her time working in Healthcare: 

"I began care support in September 1992 supporting a lovely lady in her own home who had Cerebral Palsy for 2 years. My next role was caring in the community for adults with physical disabilities eg: Parkinson’s Disease Motor Neurone, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntingtons Disease, Stroke, and Cancer. After 5 years community care I successfully interviewed and was employed by Portsmouth NHS Trust within Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Services where I remained for 12 years. My next role was within Children's Services (EBD) which was extremely challenging emotionally and physically for just under 6 years. My next role was within Elderly Care supporting adults with advanced Dementia as a night care go- ordinator, however I became unwell and was unable to work.

As soon as possible I returned to Community Care supporting adults with Dementia. In June 2020 my fantastic working career led me to my current employer Right At Home as. Community Care support worker. I am extremely proud to celebrate 30 years within Health and Social Care and honestly would not want to do anything else, my love of people is genuine, having experienced personally being a wheelchair user for 7 months while in recovery helps give me a little more understanding regarding how we ‘don’t really like to ask for/ or want to request help’.

Being there to support someone prepare a meal, hand them a flannel to wash their face, or give them medication is priceless and I never take these seemingly ‘little things’ for granted. I am SO, SO lucky to have met some of the most delicious people ever and it still completely warms my soul when I think about them."
