What is Parkinson's? 

Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive neurological condition. This means it causes problems in the brain and gets worse and worse over time. Over time, as the disease progresses, the brain is unable to control certain functions such as body movements; most people start to develop symptoms when over the age of 50. 

What are the Symptoms? 

There are three main symptoms to look out for, and these are below. It is recommended that if you, or your loved one, is experiencing any of these symptoms, that you should visit a GP as soon as possible. 

  • Tremor/ shaking
  • Slow movement
  • Stiff and Inflexible Muscles 

Other Symptoms may include: 

  • Pain
  • Sleeping Problems
  • Memory Loss
  • Mental Health Problems such as Anxiety and Depression

Personalised Care Plans

We assess every Client of ours before Care starts, as this enables us to understand their needs and how we, and our amazing CareGivers, can support them. At Right at Home Solent we are proud to provide premium Homecare in Fareham, Gosport, Southampton & New Forest East. We have found that one way to maintain that level of Service, we match CareGivers to Clients based on expertise, interests, and personality, as we believe it's important for our clients and their CareGivers to build great relationships, friendships even, together. During the assessment, the client's NOKs will also have a chance to meet some of the office team and be able to discuss their Care Plan so they are reassured that they are getting the Care and Support they need. 

Medication Assistance 

Many people living with Parkinson’s struggle to find the correct Medication dosages and need help from their GP; but that is where we, Right at Home Solent, come in and can assist you, or your loved one, with taking Medication and/or booking GP appointments. 

Companionship

We are also able to to support the Client, living with Parkinson's, to continue enjoying their hobbies and interests, as we believe that no Disability should be limiting; and we are passionate about giving all of our clients the best quality of life possible.

Home Help & Personal Care

We are proud to support our Clients in Fareham, Gosport, Southampton & New Forest East, as much or as little as they require. We are passionate about allowing our Clients remaining as independent as possible; as we understand that those who choose to stay at home, as opposed to going into a Care Home are wanting to remain independent. Our amazing CareGivers can also help with light household tasks like Dusting, Changing Bedding, Vacuuming, Shopping, and Food Preparation. We can also help with Personal Care and provide assistance with Washing, Dressing, Eating, and Toileting, when their condition progresses and these symptoms are worse and affect these abilities.

Managing Parkinson's is more than Medication

  • Parkinson's UK has said that doing at-least 2.5 hours of physical exercise per week can actually slow symptoms 
  • It's important to maintain a healthy diet
  • Make sure they maintain activities they enjoy to look after their mental health - as Anxiety and Depression commonly come alongside Parkinson's Disease

  • Discover a local support group for other people caring for people with Parkinson’s who understand what you’re going through and can offer advice

Look After Yourself

  • Caring for your loved one is a full-time responsibility and there are often no breaks in between. Time-off/Respite can help you rest and reconnect with friends and family while a Respite Carer supports your loved one.
