New Rest & Reminisce event praised by Liverpool locals
for preventing isolation
The event, launched by Right at Home South Liverpool & Halton, is also helping to ease anxiety among adults living with dementia.
A new Rest & Reminisce event in Allerton, Liverpool is helping to ease anxiety and prevent isolation among local adults seeking conversation, companionship, and connection.
Launched by local homecare provider, Right at Home South Liverpool, the monthly gathering enables people of all backgrounds to come together for coffee, cake, and laughter.
Margaret, 89, enjoys attending the free event. She said: “It gives me a chance to get out and meet new people and take part in activities that help stimulate me, whilst I enjoy a cup of tea and cake. I’m excited for the next one.”
Fiona Stirling, Client Relationship Manager for Right at Home South Liverpool, was inspired to launch the Rest & Reminisce event after struggling to find local groups that encourage social interaction.
She said: “Our aim is to lessen anxiety and depression, help to people retain cognitive function for longer and prevent social isolation. It's also an opportunity for individuals to express their feelings, fostering a sense of community and joyful connections.”
Joan, 80, who lost her beloved husband last year, said: “I have been feeling really low as of late, and worry about being on my own all the time, but the group has given me something to look forward to, and I have met some lovely people”.
The Rest & Reminisce event runs on the on the last Tuesday of every month at All Hallows Church, Allerton and is free to attend.
The event is attended by Right at Home Caregivers, who have training in caring for elderly clients, including those living with dementia.
Right at Home is also planning a monthly ‘Golden Cinema’ event, with the first one launching in March.
The free event, also taking place at All Hallows Church, will enable local people to enjoy a classic movie with a hot drink and cake.
