Hale's History
Hale gains its name from the words nook or shelter.
The doomsday book featured Hale back in 1086 however in the 7th century there is evidence of Saxons settling in the area.
In the mid-11th century shortly after the Norman Conquest of England, Norman Hamon de Massey gained Dunham and Bowdon.
It stayed under the Massey family until the family name became extinct and in the mid-14th century the Booths of Dunham and the family eventually became the Earls of Stanford.
Over the middle ages Hale grew as an agricultural town establishing Hale Barns as a separate location.
May 22 1862 saw the introduction of the The Cheshire Midland Railway which allowed it to change to a a commuter village from a agricultural one. It continues to evolve and thrive to this day with plenty to do and see in the area.
