Sale’s History
Situated on the bank of the river Mersey in the town of Trafford, Sale has a varied history with evidence of Stone age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon activity. In the middle ages Sale and neighbouring Aston upon Mersey fields were used for crop and cattle farming.
Around the 17th century Sale became a part of the cottage industry producing garthweb. By 1765 the Bridge water canal had reached the town which lead to its urbanisation. In 1849 Sales population more than tripled due to the introduction of the Sale railway. Since then Sale has become a thriving town with lots of things to do with plenty of places to eat.
