Right at Home Aylesbury Vale and Chiltern Supporting Dementia Action Week 2023

Dementia Action week is Alzheimer’s Society’s longest running awareness campaign. Right at Home partnered with Alzheimer’s Society in 2019 and have been raising money to support vital research. As a network we aimed to raise over £40,000 during the first two years, and our current total in our third year of partnership is just over £65,000. To support Alzheimer’s Society, Right at Home  Aylesbury Vale and Chiltern took part in collecting for the Forget Me Not Appeal to raise awareness and money for anyone living with Dementia, by arranging a promotional stall together with our local Morrisons’s grocery store in Aylesbury. The Morrisons staff were briefed about the appeal and were made aware of how to engage with customers living with Dementia.

Get a Diagnosis for Dementia

This year Alzheimer’s Society has chosen to focus on highlighting the need to act early on getting a Diagnosis for Dementia Action Week 2023. Diagnosis rates for Dementia have fallen for the first time in a decade and Alzheimer’s Society wanted to highlight the importance of recognising the signs and symptoms of dementia to offer their support, and improve the diagnosis process.

Did you know?

  • One in four people who died of COVID-19 had a diagnosis of dementia
  • In some areas of the UK only half of people with dementia get a diagnosis

It's important to get a diagnosis of dementia:

  • It can help people understand what dementia is and how it might progress
  • You can take control and get medication and treatment available

Right at Home Aylesbury Vale and Chiltern can help with an early diagnosis by closely monitoring behaviours over time, and by signposting to relevant Healthcare Professionals that we work with.

Potential Symptoms of Dementia

  • Memory loss
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Finding it hard to carry out familiar daily tasks
  • Struggling to follow conversations or find the right word
  • Being confused about time or place
  • Mood changes
