About Brentwood

Brentwood Cathedral

Constructed in 1861 as a parish church designed in the Gothic style, Brentwood Cathedral started as a relatively modest structure. Its elevation to cathedral status occurred in 1917. Undergoing significant expansion from 1989 to 1991, the church transformed into a larger edifice showcasing an Italianate classical style.

Cardinal Basil Hume dedicated the newly expanded Brentwood Cathedral on 31 May 1991. Recognizing its historical and architectural significance, the cathedral received a Grade II listing in 2022.

Situated within the heart of Brentwood town centre, the cathedral is a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike – it’s certainly worth a visit if you are in the area and you can find out more here.

Brentwood Cricket Ground

Brentwood’s historic grounds is the source of admiration for numerous clubs in the county and one highlight was when, in 2010, Brentwood Cricket Club earned the prestigious title of 'Best Cricket Ground' from the Essex Playing Field's Association.

Featured in the 1969 Wisden Cricketers Almanac, Brentwood's tree-surrounded acres were lauded as the most beautiful among all Essex grounds. The publication noted that playing at Brentwood gives the sensation of being in the expansive grounds of a grand country mansion – a sentiment virtually true.
