Wilpshire Defibrillator Fundraiser
Right at Home East Lancs replaces stolen defibrillator

Right at home East Lancashire & Ribble Valley is delighted to report that the team has raised the necessary funds to replace the defibrillator that was previously stolen from outside the office.
The new device has been installed with a secure cabinet at the same location on Whalley Rd in Wilpshire, Blackburn after the original defibrillator was stolen three years ago.
Right at Home East Lancashire &n Ribble Valley, which offers care services to people living in their own homes in Blackburn, Whalley, Clitheroe, Waddington, Great Harwood and surrounding areas, held several fundraising activities and received generous donations from Wilpshire Parish Council and Blackburn Rotary Club to pay for the new equipment.
The homecare company’s managing director Julie Foote realised the importance of having the defibrillator installed after being alerted by members of the public who needed the device, but were unable to use it.
She said: “Despite previous fundraising efforts to purchase the original defibrillator, mind-less individuals stole the device, leaving the area without this live-saving piece of equipment.
“Having to tell someone dealing with a life-threatening situation that it was no longer available is one of the hardest predicaments to find yourself in.”
The need for defibrillators
Explaining the importance of having a defibrillator installed, Julie added: “To help someone who is in cardiac arrest survive, a defibrillator needs to be found as quickly as possible. For every minute it takes for the defibrillator to reach someone and deliver a shock, their chances of survival lower. That’s why this device is so important for our community.”
Charity partnership
In addition to fundraising for the defibrillator, Right at Home East Lancashire, which is rated 10 out of 10 on leading advice website homecare.co.uk, is working in partnership with British Heart Foundation to raise vital funds for new research and help raise awareness surrounding heart disease.
