Marion joined Right at Home GF in February 2016. She had been thinking about a career in care for 4-5yrs but although she had helped looked after her mother, she wasn’t sure if it was something that she could do long term. However, it got to the point where Marion needed a change and she felt ready to try a different direction in her life.
She spoke to her cousin and a friend of hers who had experience in care who both told Marion that she would make a great carer. Marion happened to notice on Facebook that her friend Karen was having an interview with Right at Home and, after a quick chat, decided to contact us herself.
Marion’s interview was successful and she decided to start off just working a few hours a week, knowing that she could always increase her hours if she wanted to. She says now that it was one of the best moves she ever made, “Everyone always mentions how happy I am when I’m working,” she says.
Marion loves her job – she enjoys giving something back and helping people keep their independence. One of her clients particularly likes getting out and about in the fresh air and has told Marion that she makes her smile. Every time she visits she says what a lovely day she’s had and she doesn’t want it to end. Marion adds that she enjoys the banter with this client and that they often laugh from start to finish.
Marion likes the fact that Right at Home can offer her the hours she needs; all her clients are local to her and she also mentions the friendly office team. She has recommended a few friends to join the team so clearly enjoys her job. The most rewarding part is knowing the difference that she is making people’s lives – one of her clients frequently tells Marion that they have loved every minute of her visit, “So I must be doing something right!”.
