Adriana came to caregiving almost by accident, having intended to apply for a cleaning role but pressing the wrong button! Despite coming from a teaching background - later punctuated with cleaning and dinner lady roles to work around her children - Adriana initially lacked confidence in becoming a caregiver. But once guided through her training by a mentor, she realised the job suited her well and before long, worked through her NVQ Level 3 in health and social care and an NVQ in business administration.

The training, experience and qualifications Adriana has gathered has enabled her to work her way up to the position of Care Manager at Right at Home GF and is the lead on dementia care.

Adriana’s role includes ensuring the care provided by her team of caregivers is safe and is compliant with strict standards and regulations, that her team is well supported and that clients are happy with all aspects of the care they receive. She is passionate about helping to develop her staff and, alongside her management responsibilities, also provides care to several clients.

Adriana’s journey is an inspiration, and she draws on her positive experience at Right at Home GF to encourage others. One such example is Vicky who is a coordinator at Right at Home GF.

Adriana is currently working with Vicky to help her achieve more in her role.

Adriana says: “Having been supported to reach a level that I never imagined was possible, I am proud to be helping one of my colleagues to be the best they can be by teaching them new skills and sharing knowledge.

“By gently and slowly giving her more responsibilities and trusting her to take on new tasks, I am helping to build her confidence. As Vicky takes on more, this in turn helps me so the support is very much a two-way thing.

“I know what it is like to be a caregiver so I can give my team informed advice on how to do certain tasks. I think this understanding helps them to relate to me and, for us to achieve really high standards of care as a team.”

Since becoming Care Manager, Adriana has continued to invest in her career and has achieved a level 5 diploma in health and social care management.
