Despite the chilly day school children, businesses and locals came out at lunch time to have a bit of fun in Hatfield Town centre and take part in the annual pancake race and flipping competition to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.

The events team at Hatfield Town Council had put on another great event for children and adults with their annual pancake race and flipping competition. Local businesses joined in with staff from Hatfield Library, Bebo Cafe and Right at Home all taking part and having a flipping good time.

Teachers and children from one of the local schools took time out of their lunch break to join in the fun.

The kids certainly had a lot of fun racing up and down the covered Arcade and flipping their pancakes along the way. Many pancakes did not survive the continuous flipping and ended up on the floor but the Hatfield Town Council Events Team had planned things to perfection with replacement pancakes appearing seconds after their predecessors’ demise.

Local Councillor Bernard Sarson came along to support the event and give out the prizes to the winners.

Reporters from both the Welwyn & Hatfield Times and Bob FM came along to report on the event with the Welwyn & Hatfield Times publishing a double page on the 13th March and BobFM recording an impromptu inverview with Keith Sheena Director of Right at Home.

Bebo cafe staff won the pancake race and Right at Home won the flipping contest.
Right at Home are looking forward to defending their title next year as I’m sure that Bebo are too.

Buddy our mascot didn’t want to be left out so he joined in to help support the event. One of the local children took a real liking to him and wanted to take him home but Buddy is very loyal like all our staff so stayed with us.
