Right at Home UK is reflecting on another year of incredible success stories across our network of over 75 local offices. From going above and beyond for our Clients by making their wishes come true, to winning prestigious awards for our quality in-home care, training and leadership, 2023 has been a year to remember.

Join us as we look back over 2023 and discover how we have made a positive difference to the lives of both our Clients and wider local communities.

Granting Client wishes

In 2023, we wrapped up our incredibly successful ‘Tin Full of Wishes’ campaign, which gave our Clients the opportunity to relive their most treasured memories through special experience days.

Back in February, an ex-nurse was delighted to have her wish to fly owls granted by Right at Home Cardiff & Newport. Maisie Ingate, who worked as an NHS district nurse until she retired, was invited to a private owl flying session at the British Birds of Prey Centre, based in the Welsh Botanical Gardens.

And in March, a Client from Right at Home Bedford, who lives with Parkinson’s disease, was treated to a VIP tour of Chelsea FC’s stadium and museum. Arranged by his CareGivers, John Smith and wife Maureen made the journey down to Stamford Bridge for an exclusive experience of John’s favourite club.

Many of our offices have continued to grant wishes for their Clients throughout the year, including Right at Home Bishop’s Stortford & Braintree, which has even hired a Client Experience Lead to organise memorable days out. Recent events have included a night at the opera at Chelmsford Cathedral, and a trip to see a Stevenage Football Club game. All Clients were accompanied by their CareGivers.

Awards Success

Right at Home UK is thrilled to have been awarded a number of prestigious accolades in 2023. One of our biggest achievements was receiving the Princess Royal Training Award for our ‘Train the Trainer’ programme, which is designed to train Managers and Senior CareGivers with the necessary skills, knowledge and expertise to provide high-quality training to CareGivers within their local offices.

Another incredible highlight for Right at Home in 2023 was being named the Homecare Provider of the Year at the Leaders in Care Awards. The company was recognised for its commitment to ensuring Clients receive the highest quality service possible, while investing heavily in training and career advancement opportunities for CareGivers.

Right at Home also maintained its 5 Star Employer status for the fifth consecutive year in 2023. The award was based on feedback from 1,701 team members across the network, who took part in an anonymous survey conducted by independent research company, WorkBuzz.

Individual awards this year went to Lucy Campbell, our chief exec, who was named Home Care Business Woman of the Year at the Women Achieving Greatness Awards; Simon Osborne, Director of Quality, In Home and Clinical Care, who won the Executive Clinical Leadership accolade at the Social Care Leadership Awards; and Heather Wehrle, Director of People and Brand, who picked up the Rising Star Award at the annual Home Care Awards.

Many of our local offices also received prestigious accolades this year, including Right at Home Stockport & Didsbury, which was crowned the Business of the Year at the Stockport Business Awards.

Meanwhile, Catherine Rock, a CareGiver at Right at Home Bridgend & Vale of Glamorgan, took home the Homecare Worker Award at the Great British Care Awards in Cardiff after facing strong competition from other professional carers working across Wales.

New offices

This year has also seen Right at Home grow its presence across the country, with six new offices receiving their registration from the Care Quality Commission.

We’re pleased to welcome aboard new franchise owners in Bromsgrove, North Leeds, Central London, Dartford, Telford and Solihull.

Community Engagement

One of Right at Home’s top priorities is taking care of our Clients’ physical health, in order for them to live independently in the comfort of their own homes, but what’s equally important to us is improving their mental wellbeing through social interaction.

That’s why many of our offices host several social events throughout the year, to help Clients engage with their local community, and reduce loneliness and isolation.

In 2023, our East Lancashire office launched a monthly Golden Cinema event for over 65s, screening popular films and providing refreshments, free of charge.

Right at Home Derby has also been active in the community this year; in August it hosted a Bake-Off Fun Day to raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society. Ahead of the event, CareGivers Jodie Hunt and Catherine Cope completed a 24-hour bake off, which was live-streamed on Facebook. The pair made 60 cakes that were sold at the fun day.

A number of our offices hosted dementia-friendly music events in 2023, including Right at Home Havant & Petersfield and Right at Home Portsmouth, which joined forces to launch a dementia choir in Waterlooville. Meanwhile, Right at Home Guildford & Farnham hosted a Musical Memories event to spread joy among people living with dementia, and their families.

Also this year, one of our new offices, Right at Home Grantham, launched a Sensory Café at Grantham Museum, giving adults with learning disabilities, mental health conditions and autism the chance to learn new skills, express their feelings and interact with others.

Meanwhile, Right at Home Bristol has teamed up with a local primary school to run an intergenerational Lunch Club. By uniting older and younger generations, the club has helped foster strong connections in the community, reduce loneliness and enhance the well-being of older attendees. By the end of the academic year, every class at the Park Primary School in Kingswood will have visited the Lunch Club.

Thank you to every one of our Clients, their loved ones, our team members and those in our local communities. We're so proud to have spent another phenomenal year making a difference every day. We're already excited to see what 2024 brings and look forward to you joining us on this journey.
