We all dream and aspire to have the best quality of life, but how do we get there?

Some of what happens to you is undoubtedly beyond your control, but what can you do to help improve your day-to-day life?

Clearly not everybody shares the same idea as to what quality of life is or means, we all value it differently of course.

We are as aware of this as anyone. We have created hundreds of unique, person-centred care plans for all of the clients we have delivered home care in Sefton to. That makes us more aware than most, as to how different an individual's objectives are and can be, and we aim to help more people in the Sefton Community achieve an improved quality of life.

You can apply our tips with the help of a supportive local Right at Home Carer based in the Sefton area, call us on 01704 443344 if you'd like to hear more.

So, living in Sefton, what can impact your quality of life?

Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a model for understanding the motivations for human behaviour. It maps different motivations onto a pyramid, with each level representing a different human need. These include physiological needs, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.

In short, Maslow believed that all humans share those very same needs and motivations, by following that belief, we feel any activities or groups that help achieve against those levels within the pyramid are those that we would always look to highlight.

Some of our favourite organisations are listed below, those that we feel have made a huge difference to our clients lives and the lives of so many others throughout Sefton:

So, what else can help with your Quality of Life?

Below are some of our tips for improvement - for you and your loved ones:

  • Aim to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy eating, sleeping and exercise habits all help provide major benefits for your wellbeing.

Did you know that a study (published in The Lancet Medical Journal) found that men and women aged 60 and over who take around 7,000 steps a day slashed their mortality risk by as much as 50 percent?! Walking more is also beneficial for younger people — those who walked at least 8,000 steps a day saw a similar outcome.

We understand that reduced mobility, pain, and certain physical conditions can make it difficult to engage in physical activity. However, there are plenty of local opportunities in Sefton for all access levels/requirements. Remember our friends at Living Well Sefton?

  • Try to reduce or limit your stress levels

Prolonged stress has a seriously negative effect on our mental and physical well-being. Wherever you can, you should try to find ways to reduce or cope with stress in your daily life. Some common examples of how you can achieve this are activities such as yoga, meditation, reading, light exercise, and doing relaxing things you enjoy (ideally without alcohol).

We are blessed in Sefton to have such wonderful outdoor spaces, Formby beach, Crosby Marina, Freshfield Squirrel Reserve, Southport Promenade, the many wonderful parks in Bootle, the Cheshire Lines path taking in the beautiful views of the canals through Maghull and Lydiate to name but a few.

We can help, you may be somebody that is a regular carer for a loved one, you may begin to feel stressed, this is when you should consider seeking support from us to discuss our respite care services. Reducing your own stress levels can indirectly improve the quality of life for you and those around you.

  • Make time for friendships!

Social contact is another crucial ingredient in the quality of your life. Making connections with other humans is a huge part of our lives. We are naturally social creatures and benefit from making connections with others.

The digital age has brought new ways to stay connected with friends and family, but we can’t underestimate the importance of physical presence. Put down the electronic equipment and try to make time to visit in person, if you need help, our companionship services are designed to assist you in making those journeys.

Plan to see your family and friends in real life as often as possible. Or seek new connections from local activities, groups or events such as our music events with Julie Lawson CIC
